Info visalization in buddhist caves - culture exploration

From the perspective of information transmission, I did a brief research on Buddhist grottoes in China. Out of the research on information visualization, my primary understanding theme is what stories these exquisite murals tell.


After summarizing, I was surprised to find that there were not many stories, and many murals always repeated a story - the information density of the murals was not high. From the perspective of visualizing the painter's story, there is much discussion about the formal details of the mural.


In a story that is far away from the present and has little inspiration, I started to reflect again, is the content really more important than the form? This also reminds me of the work of a student. When she was doing the intangible inheritance of regional embroidery, she found that many embroidery patterns could no longer be interpreted into the beautiful meaning at that time, so she recreated new patterns and presented them in the form of embroidery, making the embroidery technique, as a form of media, be passed down.

我从信息传播的角度,对中国的佛教石窟做了一个简单的研究。在信息可视化的研究中,我主要的理解主题是这些精美的壁画讲述了什么故事。


总结之后,我惊讶地发现,故事并不多,很多壁画也总是重复描述一个故事——壁画的信息密度不高。如果从画师的故事可视化角度来说,壁画的形式细节是有很多讨论的地方。


在与现今距离遥远且没有什么启发的故事里,我重新开始反思,内容真的比形式重要吗?这也让我回忆起一个学生的作品,她在做地区刺绣非遗传承的时候,发现很多刺绣图案已经无法被解释出当时的美好含义,于是重新创造了新的图案,以刺绣形式呈现,使得技法这种媒介形式能够传承。
